Character Spotlight: Catching Up with Hayden Grissner

Hayden’s come a long way in the fifteen years since we last saw him in The Crimson League: The Fight for Hope. (Consider this something of a spoiler alert, if you haven’t read book one yet!)

From humble beginnings as a commoner from a small village north of Podrar, with a penchant for hunting birds and for archery, Hayden is now the Duke of Crescenton–one of the capital noblemen.

Known as the Peasant Duke, he was never really accepted by the majority of his peers, but he doesn’t care. He’s still fast friends with the king–and he’s one of the first people Rexson turns to when the Enchanted Alliance kidnaps three of his children.

Hayden was always an introvert and rather private by temperament, so he doesn’t mind that the majority of other noblemen more or less ignore him. He takes his responsibilities at court seriously, and doesn’t like to discuss the series of un/fortunate events that led him obtaining a duchy.

Loyal, quiet, and unassuming, I’ve long considered Hayden one of my characters most likely to be overlooked and underestimated. I think he is more of a force to be reckoned with than most would expect.
