Long or short chapters?

Do you prefer long or short chapters?

One change between the first and second edition of book II of the Herezoth trilogy right now is that I combined chapters to make them about double the length that they were.

My beta reader for book two’s second edition didn’t mind it at all. She mentioned that she felt the chapters ended at good spots, so we’ll see what my editor thinks!

Personally, I don’t mind whether chapters are short or long. My OCD thing is to stop reading at the end of a paragraph. As long as I’m not mid-paragraph, I’m fine. I don’t have to finish a chapter before I put a book down.

I do think short chapters spur readers to keep going for “one more chapter,” though.

What do you think?
