I’m thinking today of my first book, which is so bad I have never even considered publishing it after writing my Herezoth trilogy.
It’s a complete melodrama, which, granted, was the point. It’s basically a clean soap opera–not much of an audience for that, and that’s the best way to describe it. It’s also poorly plotted and written.
What I liked about it was the character of Princess Cassandra. I think she inspired Princess Melly in my trilogy–who is only twelve or so by the time book three comes along. She’s not a main character in the trilogy.
I drafted a sequel to my Herezoth trilogy in 2013 for NaNoWriMo which featured Melly as a main character. I love her, and I can’t wait to rewrite that sequel, changing a handful of major things to make THAT plot less soap opera-like than that original draft turned out. It was quite a bit in its way like my first novel.
I have a thing for melodrama.
It’s just been a long time since I’ve had a princess as a main character. I want that again.
