From languages to football, 10 random facts about me . . .

I thought it would be fun to give you ten random facts about me today, so here goes!

  1. I have studied four foreign languages: Spanish most intensely (I’m fluent), also French (quite a bit of study there), and Portuguese and Latin (less so). When I was in my doctoral program for Spanish lit, I had to prove reading proficiency in two languages other than English and Spanish for research purposes, hence French (which I started studying in undergrad) and Portuguese (similar to Spanish). I studied Latin when I was in grad school for theology.
  2. I used to be OBSESSED with football. I grew up rooting for the home team, the New Orleans Saints, and when I went to college at the University of Alabama, well . . . you’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger football school anywhere.
  3. I love Victorian literature but hate the Romantics who preceded the Victorian era. Especially the British ones. They are awful. UUUGH.
  4. My favorite food is red beans and rice. (I was a New Orleans baby, after all).
  5. I once read two full Babysitter’s Club books in one day as a kid. I loved those books, and I have always loved to read!
  6. I was captain of the quiz bowl team in high school and love trivia. I know a ton of random, useless information. It’s my superpower.
  7. I have NO sense of direction at all. And because I live in my head, I don’t hold onto visual details in the real world. I can spend all day with someone, and if they go to the bathroom and you ask me what they’re wearing, there’s a good chance I won’t be able to tell you.
  8. I am trying to get back to playing the piano. I took lessons as a girl and am definitely am amateur, but I love it. Time is the issue. No time to practice!
  9. I read lots of theological and religious stuff (I’m Catholic). St. John Henry Newman, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Augustine are among my favorites.
  10. I do not have an athletic or coordinated bone in my body!
