Thoughts on rest

I got roped into assisting a second program at Church on Mondays, so now I’m at Church Monday and Wednesday for evangelization programs in addition to working two jobs.

It’s a busy time. And I’m not finding it as easy as I should to intentionally rest on Sunday.

I’m devoting Sundays, in addition to catching up with family, mainly to my fiction, because that’s work that restores and engages me and doesn’t necessarily feel like “work” the way my corporate day job does.

Honestly, precisely BECAUSE I’m so busy with multiple jobs and programs at Church, I should take Sunday truly for leisure before I burn out.

I should read. Take a walk. Work out. Visit my folks. Make a puzzle. Catch up on my podcasts.

That said, even if I’m not devoting 100% of Sunday to leisure, I’m definitely maintaining my prayer routine and getting adequate sleep. Giving that prayer time to God is a non-negotiable for me. I would get nothing else done if I didn’t do that.

All this to say, it is never more critical to force yourself to take some downtime than when you are so busy that you think you cannot afford it.

You cannot afford NOT to rest. Do it.

  1. It’s hard to take rest time sometimes, but you have to do it; otherwise, the consequences are detrimental
