Time to wrap up our temperament series today with what happens to be my temperament! Yep, I’m an introverted, sensitive, cerebral melancholic.
Melancholics react slowly to stimuli. (I’m famous among friends and family for my delayed reactions. I need time to process things). However, these reactions grow stronger over time.
POSITIVES
Melancholics are great planners, because they have a natural knack for understanding how things may plan out–what may go wrong, what is the worst case scenario. This is great, because they are then able to safeguard AGAINST those things happening. They are able to take steps to prevent failure.
They set themselves up for success.
Melancholics are intentional and conscientious. They love truth, and they are naturally drawn to the deeper, more complex things in life–to spirituality and the big questions.
They are great writers, artists, and creators. They are know for their rich interior lives. They are champs at long-suffering-perhaps because they expect it to come!
STRUGGLES
Melancholics are perfectionists. That, combined with their talent for recognizing what may go wrong and their tendency to focus on the negative, means that they struggle to start new things or new projects.
Melancholics are risk-averse. They struggle with moodiness and depression, and if immature or unable to control their negative emotions, can bring others down with them. They often hold grudges.
