When was the last time you considered what a blessing our basic large appliances are?
I have never known life without them. I can’t imagine the time it must have taken in the old days just to do laundry! I know that here in Louisiana, Monday is still “red beans and rice day” for that reason.
Before washing machines, doing laundry would take all day. Monday was laundry day. Culturally, women started making red beans and rice on Monday because they could let the beans simmer for hours on end while they were busy doing laundry. It was a simple way to multitask critical chores.
These appliances save us so much time and energy. And as for refrigerators: think about the hunger they prevent by allowing us to preserve food!
It’s so easy to take these things for granted. I definitely tend to do just that. So today, I am explicitly, directly grateful for them.
What are you thankful for today?
