Thankful Thursday: Thankful for Cajun and Creole food

Jambalaya.

Chicken and Andouille Gumbo.

Fried Shrimp Poboy.

Crawfish Etouféé

Red beans and Rice.

I grew up around New Orleans, and while I’ve moved away and returned more than once, I returned most recently in 2020 and have been living around that area since.

Besides my family, the best thing about living here is the FOOD.

Not only is it world class (I honestly have never been impressed with the food while visiting or living anywhere else, though I find certain Spanish dishes and tapas a lot of fun), I also grew up with it, so it’s my comfort food.

Everyone knows there is something special about comfort food–regional and family staples that take you back to the special moments of childhood.

I am truly grateful to have such great cuisine all around me. It’s something I’ve learned not to take for granted after living in Alabama and Chicago–no slight against the people in either place.

Food is an essential aspect of human culture. So much of what we do as humans revolves around it–celebrations, family dinners, morning breakfast routines.

And the food down by me is truly something special. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
