Thankful Thursday: Thankful for reviews

Today, I am grateful for the people who have taken the time to leave a review of any my books on Amazon or Goodreads–whether the first editions of my trilogy or the newly released second edition of my trilogy’s first installment.

Unless you ARE an author, you can have no idea how much an honest review means. And I don’t mean only the good ones.

The bad reviews of the first editions helped me realize what I could look to change, cut, fix, or strengthen in editing the second editions.

The good ones gave me courage to undertake that work.

The reviews coming in of my new release, “The Crimson League: The Fight for Hope,” are giving me hope and affirmation. They have affirmed that I have more or less succeeded in that goal of vastly improving my manuscripts.

Each new review gets me closer to that point when Amazon will start noticing, “hey, people have read this. People are reading it. I should recommend it to other people.”

That’s ONE reason reviews matter. Here’s another: there is so much garbage, so much unedited swill put out, that honest reviews help the good books stand out. They assure a prospective reader, “This was a labor of love and is a professional production. It’s worth the investment of your time and the purchase price.”

Reviews are not only critical for success in the industry, but they are also heartwarming and encouraging. A good review–knowing that your book really touched someone, really spoke to them on a deep level–makes all the toil, stress, and marketing hours (the worst part of the job, as any writer will tell you) worthwhile.

To those readers who leave reviews, HERE’S TO YOU!
