New review for me, FREE BOOK for you: Are you ready to travel to Herezoth?

Herezoth’s a dangerous kingdom with sorcerer Zalski Forzythe in charge, but full of adventure. There won’t be a dull moment, I promise you that, if you join the brave souls fighting against him and his army in the Crimson League.

This week, you’re ticket is FREE if you fly by Kindle!

Truly, it’s by providence that one of the sisters at the monastery where I was a postulant in 2019-early 2020 just emailed me her thoughts on “The Crimson League: The Fight for Hope.” (I sent the monastery a couple of copies on launch day).

I wish I could make her thoughts a review on Amazon. Here’s what she said (with some things deleted for spoilers, and lacking all identifying information for privacy/out of respect).

“I picked up your book when the Novice Mistress put it out for the Novitiate and, while I also had a copy of Crime and Punishment in hand for reading, I thought I’d read through a chapter or two in Herezoth and put it aside for later.

I still haven’t started Crime and Punishment.

I finished The Crimson League yesterday and I absolutely loved it. I’ll admit, I’m a tough nut to crack on YA fiction, because young adults seem to bring out my single cynical side, but your characters step-by-step broke into my heart like it was a grain silo outside of Yangerton. I didn’t get to read the first edition, obviously, but your second edition is polished and packed with a depth of character in all directions, which is always a hit with me. Even Zalski and Malzin get their moment to explain and the effect is a profound investment in the outcome while not compromising the moral facts of the matter. The only character I would have loved to understand better, I’ll admit, is Menikas. There is so much I think I’d love to have grappled with in his mind. (REDACTION) This, of course, is how fanfiction starts…

Your story is wonderful, too – I’m always initially frightened of Fantasy tropes, but you’ve managed to take this in so many fresh directions, it avoids a huge number of comparisons and never feels ‘done’. (I’ll take Kora almost doing xxx over Harry Potter moping in The Order of the Phoenix any day of the week.) Even when I picked a plot point, I was never bored with it, and the many that I did not pick were welcome expansions on a theme that really opened up some great questions. (REDACTION OF SPOILER)? I ate it right up.

Your themes on family and resistance and the challenges of staying out of the moral ‘grey zone’ were subtle and so organic to the natural interactions of your characters as well. They’re such a beautifully integrated blend of people, and I was really impressed with how they each brought their own to the center when it was time and necessary. (Also, the ongoing nods at the Giver’s Providence were a nice touch.)”

She even called Kansten ‘A LOVABLE BADGER,’ y’all, and I just… that’s it. Kansten is henceforth, forever, the “lovable badger.”

I know this awesome woman of God, and she is a legitimately tough critic. I’m thrilled that she liked my book, and even more thrilled that this came legitimately out of the blue, because I’m now realizing I’m now healed enough after “moving out and moving on” from religious life to keep closer in contact with my beloved sisters whom I have missed so much.

God continues to bring me healing, greater peace, and a stronger trust that He is guiding the path my life has taken.

As for YOU . . . please download “The Crimson League: The Fight for Hope” today for Kindle.

I’m running a free promo on my new YA Fantasy because I need reviews to garner more attention and help convince people the book is legitimately good and worth giving a chance.

I’m noticing threads running throughout all the feedback and reviews I’ve seen so far, including:

  • characters you will invest in
  • intriguing/unique use of fantasy tropes
  • some twists and turns that feel authentic but you won’t see coming

This second edition is ten years in the making, and this week, reading will cost you nothing but time. . . though I ask you to leave an honest review when you’ve read it!

You can download here.
