How my new release fits into the series as a whole

My launch day, or pub day, is tomorrow!

I put up a poll on Facebook asking people to vote on a topic for a blog post for today, and “where book one fits into the trilogy as a whole” won.

I’m glad it did. It’s a great topic that’s bound to generate some questions among readers.

First of all, as mentioned above, “The Crimson League: The Fight for Hope” is book one in the Herezoth trilogy, a YA fantasy sword and sorcery series.

  • Book Two will be titled “The Magic Council: The Fight for Home”
  • Book Three is tentatively titled “The King’s Sons: The Fight for Legacy”

While I will need book one to do well to get book two released (indie publishing is not cheap), I do want to reflect on what the trilogy as a whole is and does, because there are some cool things about it that are genuinely unique.

  • Book one is a magical civil war. The stakes are high, and it introduces some characters you will follow over the course of twenty-five years.
  • Book two takes place fifteen years after book one. It’s a coming of age story for one of the major character’s sons as well as a slow-burn political thriller, so it’s a bit different from book one.
  • Book three takes place ten years after book two. Decisions and mistakes made in the previous books come home to roost. In that sense, it is something of a classic tragedy.
  • NONE of the books ends in a cliffhanger, despite it being a series.
  • I have loved watching the characters grow and develop over twenty-five years. That’s unusual to see in a series, and it’s something I feel is truly special.
  • I’ve also loved to see the kingdom of Herezoth develop and change in some ways and not in others.
  • Two major themes over all the books are providence and the cycle of victimization and violence that we can choose to break or not. It’s been so neat to see different characters choose different paths regarding that last.

So, there we go! If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below.

And please, definitely let people know about the new release! I have done what I can do advertise and promote, and every little bit helps!

If you are book blogger and would like a review copy, let me know.

  2. I love that you have subtitles for each book and how they all flow together!

Awesome high-level look at how the books relate to each other. I’m excited to see how the characters grow over the trilogy.

No cliffhangers? That is VERY unusual! This reader thanks you! ❤

    1. so glad you like the subtitles! Yes, seeing how the characters grow over time has been one of my favorite aspects of having things take place over a couple of decades. And man, I HATE cliffhangers at the end of books. No. Just no.
